I can’t believe that the council is actually considering this as an option for several reasons.
- Why should tax money subsidise people who wont pay their bill. (If I didn’t pay my mortgage then my home would be reprosessed.)
- Do the council think that the people who don’t pay would really want to see a West End show? Most of them probably don’t know how to tie their show lace, never mind have the brain power to appreciate a play or an opera.
- What is the point is spending £53k to gain a profit of £8k? No commerical business would really put their effort into this.
So what would be my solution be I hear you ask for those that don’t pay?
- Firstly if you don’t pay you rent then you get no local services - post, bins etc etc.
- Secondly - you get named and shamed in the local paper.
- Secondly you lose benefits until you pay up.
- You get taken to court and the baliffs get called in.
- You are evicted.
There you go - if you pay nothing then you get nothing back and you home gets used by someone who probably deserves it more.
